British MP Takes xAI to Court Over Explicit AI Images
British Labour MP Jess Asato has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company, xAI, in London's High Court, seeking a permanent injunction to stop its Grok chatbot from generating sexualized images of her without her consent.
The case follows the circulation of AI-generated images and videos depicting Asato in sexually explicit situations after she publicly criticized Musk.
According to Asato's lawyers, the lawsuit alleges misuse of private information and breaches of data protection law. It also argues that Grok's safeguards failed to prevent the creation of fictional sexual or violent content involving real people. The case could set an important precedent for the legal liability of artificial intelligence developers.
Although xAI has previously pledged to strengthen safeguards governing image generation and editing, the company continues to face criticism and regulatory scrutiny in the United States and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, Musk has remained a vocal critic of Britain's online safety rules.
