Zelensky Seeks Starlink Access for Strikes on Russia

During a meeting at the White House, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked US President Donald Trump to secure Elon Musk's consent to use the Starlink satellite network to guide Ukrainian drones against ballistic missile launchers on Russian territory.

According to officials familiar with the matter, Trump did not give a clear response to the proposal.

Ukraine hopes this approach will reduce its dependence on Patriot missiles, whose stockpiles have been significantly depleted following the conflict with Iran. According to Kyiv, Starlink offers a more precise method of guiding drones against mobile missile systems deployed in Russia.

Until now, Musk has authorized the use of Starlink only within Ukraine, including Crimea and other occupied territories. SpaceX restricts the network's use for strikes inside Russia.

During his visit to the United States, Zelensky wanted to meet with Musk, but the billionaire declined the invitation.

Ukraine also suggested that, if Musk does not grant permission, the Pentagon could give Kyiv access to the Starshield military network. According to Ukrainian officials, however, Starlink is cheaper, easier to integrate and more reliable.

According to sources, Trump promised to discuss the proposal with Musk. His decision on whether to support it will depend primarily on whether he believes such a move would bring the war closer to an end or, conversely, lead to further escalation of the conflict.
