Putin Hopes Krasnoyarsk Metro Opens “in our time”

Construction of the metro in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, is 33% complete, according to regional authorities. Krasnoyarsk Krai Governor Mikhail Kotyukov told President Vladimir Putin that more work had been completed over the past three years than in the previous 30, the Govorit NeMoskva website reported.

Putin said funding was available, but further progress would depend on contractors’ cost estimates, decisions by regulatory agencies and the outcome of a state expert review.

He also expressed hope that the metro would open “in our time”. The scheme is one of the longest-delayed infrastructure projects in Krasnoyarsk.

Construction began in the 1990s but was later suspended. For years, public funds were used only to maintain the tunnels that had already been excavated.

Although services were originally expected to begin in 2026, the deadline has since been postponed until 2028. Workers on the project have also repeatedly complained about delayed wages.
