North Korea Launches Projectile Toward East Sea

On Thursday, North Korea fired an unidentified projectile toward the sea east of the Korean Peninsula, according to the South Korean military. The Japanese government believes it may have been a ballistic missile.

This is the latest in a series of tests this year, which have included short-range ballistic missiles, artillery rockets, and other tactical weapons designed to strengthen the country’s military capabilities.

The most recent confirmed weapons test took place in late June. According to the North Korean state news agency, the country tested a modernized 240-millimeter rocket launcher, tactical ballistic missiles, and a 155-millimeter self-propelled howitzer at that time.
