Tisza to Select Its Presidential Candidate
Hungary's ruling Tisza Party will decide on its presidential candidate on Saturday, Prime Minister Peter Magyar announced.
Party leadership is expected to first present three potential candidates, from whom it will then select its nominee. The Hungarian parliament is scheduled to vote on the new head of state on 11 August.
The selection of the president is also a key part of Magyar's effort to shift the balance of power in the country.
Under his plan, the prime minister wants to gradually weaken the positions of power that former Prime Minister Viktor Orban built up during his long tenure.
