Statute of Limitations Saves Czech Politician from Charges

Czech police have concluded that Filip Turek, a member of parliament from the Motoristi sebe party, committed several criminal offenses in a series of old Facebook posts. Detectives examined 85 posts published between 2010 and 2017 and found that eight amounted to incitement to hatred, according to Echo24.

One comment about an arson attack on a Romani family in Vitkov was also judged to constitute approval of a criminal offense.

Investigators say Turek's posts overwhelmingly targeted Black people, Roma and homosexuals, forming what they describe as a long-term pattern of communication. They consider the posts authentic, citing IP data and testimony from Turek's former boyfriend.

Police also reviewed a 2015 video in which they concluded Turek was making a Nazi salute. Despite these findings, prosecutors cannot pursue charges, as the offenses fall outside the statute of limitations. Turek denies the allegations and disputes authorship of some of the comments.
