Ukrainians Expect a Victory, but Not Soon

Most Ukrainians, 82%, believe their country will win the war against Russia, according to the latest survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS). The poll, conducted from 16 to 31 July 2026 among 1,808 respondents, was reported by UNIAN.

According to the results, 59% of respondents are firmly convinced that Ukraine will ultimately prevail, while another 23% believe a Ukrainian victory is more likely. Sixteen percent remained undecided, while only 7% expected Russia to win.

However, Ukrainians remain skeptical about a quick end to the war. Only 5% believe the fighting will end by the end of summer, while 17% expect it to end in autumn or winter 2026.

Another 13% expect the war to end in the first half of 2027, while the largest group, 39%, believe it will continue until the second half of 2027 or longer.

More than a quarter of respondents were unable to say when they expected the war to end. According to KIIS, this uncertainty further illustrates how few Ukrainians now expect the fighting to end soon.
