Trump Demands Compensation From Iran

US President Donald Trump announced that he will demand compensation from Iran for people he says Tehran has killed or seriously injured. He was responding to Iranian demands for compensation for damage caused by US and Israeli attacks and for an end to sanctions and military threats as conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Writing on Truth Social, Trump called the proposal an interesting idea and said he would in turn seek compensation for people killed or seriously injured by Iranian roadside bombs and in other conflicts.

Trump separately demanded compensation from Iran over the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole at a Yemeni port, which killed 17 US sailors and wounded more than three dozen others. The FBI has attributed the attack to al Qaeda.

Trump also called on Iran to compensate the families of thousands of people killed during anti-government protests in January. The protests marked Iran’s worst domestic unrest since the era of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Rights groups say the Iranian government has continued to crack down on opponents during the war.

Trump’s response came after Tehran said it was nearing an agreement with Oman defining new shipping lanes between the two countries through the Strait of Hormuz.
