Russia Says Ukraine Strikes Push Up Food Prices

Russia said on Wednesday that Ukrainian attacks on its agricultural infrastructure were driving up global food prices and worsening grain shortages, developments it said served the interests of some Western countries. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made the comments following a wave of Ukrainian strikes on the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.

“All this exacerbates the shortage of grain and fertilizers, fuels the rise in global food prices, and increases the burden on the countries of the Global South and East, which are being held hostage by the irresponsible policies of the aforementioned ‘players’”, she said.

A grain terminal in the Russian port of Novorossiysk suspended operations on Wednesday following an overnight Ukrainian drone attack. Demetra Holding, which owns the terminal, confirmed that it was damaged in the attack.
