Pope Leo XIV Prays for Ukraine and Russia

During the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Pope Leo XIV called on the faithful to reflect on eternal life and their ultimate destiny. During the midday Angelus prayer at Castel Gandolfo, he highlighted the significance of this feast for both the Catholic faith and popular piety.

He pointed to traditional artistic depictions of Mary, from her "falling asleep" among the apostles to her glorified form in heaven, surrounded by light, angels and saints.

According to the Pope, the Assumption recalls the Christian belief that the fullness of eternal life awaits all believers at the end of time. Pope Leo XIV also turned his attention to current conflicts and tragedies.

He prayed for the people in the Holy Land, in Ukraine and in Russia, as well as for Christians facing discrimination or persecution.

He also mentioned the people of Colombia affected by the recent earthquake. On Saturday, he also celebrated Mass at the Church of St. Thomas of Villanova.
