Turkey Pushes to Reopen Strait of Hormuz
Turkey is joining diplomatic efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and maintain the ceasefire between Iran and the United States.
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan spoke by phone on Monday with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi. According to a Turkish diplomatic source, they discussed both issues, although Ankara provided no further details about the conversation.
Earlier, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran had decided to shift from a defensive policy to a “fully offensive” one. The official attributed the shift to a deadlock in efforts to reach an agreement permanently ending the war with the United States.
Progress toward peace talks and efforts to resume oil tanker traffic through the strategic strait have both ground to a halt.
