Poland Detains Ukrainian over Assassination Plot
Poland's Internal Security Agency, working with the Warsaw Prosecutor's Office, has arrested a Ukrainian citizen identified as Serhiy P., who is suspected of attempting to murder a representative of the Ukrainian arms industry. The failed attack took place in the town of Irpin, near Kyiv, where the suspect allegedly placed an improvised explosive device under the victim's vehicle.
The bomb was meant to be detonated remotely via a cell phone, but the explosion did not occur due to a technical malfunction. The attacker then fled to Poland, where he was apprehended by police in the capital.
He faces charges of attempted murder using explosives and illegal possession of explosives, carrying a prison sentence of 15 years to life.
Authorities said the suspect acted on instructions from Russian intelligence services. Polish officials said the case confirms that Russia carries out cross-border operations using recruited individuals who travel freely between countries. Russia has long denied similar accusations of espionage and sabotage.
