Italian Jet Downs Ukraine-Origin Drone over Latvia

An Italian fighter jet shot down a drone of Ukrainian origin in Latvian airspace on 14 August, the Latvian Armed Forces confirmed on Thursday.

The unmanned aerial vehicle entered Latvian airspace from Belarus during Ukrainian attacks on Russian ports. According to the Latvian military, the drone likely strayed off course because of interference from Russian electronic warfare systems.

It is the latest in a series of incidents involving Ukrainian drones entering the airspace of NATO and EU member states during operations against Russia. The armed forces did not provide further details about the drone.
