Zuckerberg Buys Historic Irish Castle

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has purchased Strancally Castle, a 19th-century Gothic-style property in southeast Ireland.

Built around 1830, the castle overlooks the River Blackwater and is about 200 km from Meta’s European headquarters. It underwent extensive renovation in 2003.

Although the purchase is not listed in Ireland’s property price register, The Irish Times estimated that the property could be worth €20m–€30m ($23m–$35m). A spokesman for Zuckerberg said he and his family were looking forward to spending time in Ireland and continuing to care for the historic property.

Meta employs about 1,500 people in Ireland, where several major US technology companies have their European headquarters, in part because of the country’s favorable tax regime.
