Berlin Weapons Cache Tied to Russian Plot
Last year, German security authorities discovered firearms hidden in a forest near Berlin. According to intelligence agency findings, the weapons were intended for assassination attempts ordered by Russian intelligence services. Süddeutsche Zeitung and broadcasters NDR and WDR reported the story, citing unnamed sources.
One of the suspects was arrested in Romania. Investigators believe he may have been responsible for setting up the secret weapons cache. Germany's Federal Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the case on suspicion of planning a serious act of violence threatening the state.
According to media reports, German counterintelligence is convinced that those behind the cache were acting on instructions from Russian intelligence services.
Possible targets reportedly included representatives of the defense industry, Russian opposition figures living in exile and supporters of Ukraine.
Neither the prosecutor's office nor German counterintelligence has commented on the case, and the Russian embassy did not immediately respond.
