Former Student Kills One in Sword Attack at Swedish School
A sword attack at a high school in the Swedish town of Fagersta left one person dead and three injured on Friday. According to local media, the 18-year-old attacker was a former student at the school and had previously been convicted of assault.
Public broadcaster SVT, citing anonymous sources, reported that the attacker was wearing a helmet and was armed with a sword during the assault. Police shot and arrested him upon arriving at the school. He is being investigated on suspicion of murder.
Two of the injured are teenage boys who sustained serious injuries. The third injured person has already been released from the hospital.
Police are also investigating a TikTok account on which a photo of a sword appeared about 20 minutes before the attack. The daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter reported that details in the background of the photo suggested it was likely taken in a school restroom.
The account, which was about a month old, also contained videos referencing two earlier cases of mass violence in Sweden and the Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik. It was deleted on Friday.
