Trump Says Iran Still Not Ready for Right Deal

US President Donald Trump said that, in his view, Iran is not yet ready to reach a "right deal" with the United States.

When asked by reporters whether US military options against Tehran are limited, Trump replied that the United States is "seeing what happens". He also claimed that Washington has complete control over the region around the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, Iran would like a deal, but is not yet ready to strike the "right" one.

This week, Washington announced the toughest financial sanctions in history, aimed at toppling the Iranian leadership. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is set to present the details on Monday. Trump also threatened economic repercussions against countries that provide Iran with "any type of lifeline to Iran".

Before the US and Israeli attacks on Iran began on 28 February, about one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supplies passed through the Strait of Hormuz. Nearly six months into the war, energy shipments remain disrupted, as Iran has retained enough missiles and drones to restrict the movement of oil tankers.
