UK Attractions Discount Migrant Entry
Several well-known tourist attractions in the United Kingdom offer asylum seekers free or significantly discounted admission. There are at least 21 such sites, including Kew Gardens, Canterbury Cathedral and the Roman Baths in Bath, according to GB News.
While a typical adult visitor would pay a total of £337 (about $460) to enter all of the attractions listed, an asylum seeker with a registration card issued by the Home Office would pay £28 ($52), according to the article.
At Kew Gardens, for example, the discounted admission is 85p ($1.16), compared to the regular price of £24.50 ($33.5). At Canterbury Cathedral and the Roman Baths in Bath, cardholders can enter free of charge.
These benefits have been criticized by organizations advocating for stricter immigration policies, which argue that they amount to unequal treatment of British citizens.
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp of the Conservative Party called the system unfair and criticized the provision of free admission to asylum seekers.
