Fatal Crash During UK Police Chase Kills Seven

Seven people, including two police officers, were killed in a collision on the A66 near South Bank, not far from Middlesbrough in northeastern England. The crash between a police vehicle and a Volkswagen Passat occurred at approximately 3:39 a.m. local time during a police chase, according to the BBC.

According to initial reports, police spotted a suspicious vehicle and gave chase. Fourteen emergency response units were dispatched to the scene, but several people died despite the efforts of first responders.

Police are working to identify the victims and contact their families. The Independent Office for Police Conduct will investigate the circumstances of the incident.

The A66, one of the main thoroughfares in the Teesside area, was closed in both directions following the crash, and restrictions were expected to continue throughout the day.

Police also urged the public not to spread speculation while the investigation is ongoing.
