Man Arrested over Anti-Ukrainian Attack in Radom

Polish police have detained a 34-year-old man suspected of taking part in a racially motivated attack on three young Ukrainians in the city of Radom. The incident occurred on 2 August as the suspect, Tomasz G., was returning from a wedding, according to the daily newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza.

According to the prosecutor's office, he approached three men in their early 20s after hearing them speak Ukrainian. He then asked them about Volhynia, the site of a massacre of Poles during World War II. When they tried to leave, he called over other men and pointed out that they were Ukrainians. A total of eight people gradually joined in the attack, and the victims suffered facial injuries.

The attack was captured by the city's surveillance camera system. Police later tracked down Tomasz G., who had in the meantime left for a resort area with his partner. The suspect confessed to the crime and said he had been under the influence of alcohol.

Police have not yet identified the other attackers. According to Polish media, this is yet another in a series of recent incidents of violence against Ukrainians in Radom.
