EU Approves Another €6.1bn for Ukraine’s Defense

The European Commission on Monday approved an additional €6.1bn ($7.1bn) for Ukraine to procure air and missile defense systems, missiles, ammunition and radars that Brussels says Kyiv urgently needs.

The funding is part of the EU’s €90bn ($105.3bn) Ukraine Support Loan for 2026 and 2027, of which approximately €60bn ($70.2bn) is earmarked for defense procurement and €30bn ($35.1bn) for budget support.

"As Russia escalates its attacks, we are also stepping up our assistance to Ukraine in protecting its people and defending its airspace. Europe stands with Ukraine, and we will provide everything it needs when it needs it", European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.

The Commission has emphasized the need to increase supplies from the EU by drawing on existing stockpiles, reassessing order priorities and boosting production.
