Anthropic Asks Candidates to Put Mission Before Money

When recruiting employees, Anthropic assesses whether candidates are willing to prioritize the company’s mission over financial gain. According to Axios, its hiring process includes an interview focused on company culture.

One candidate was asked how he would react if Anthropic abandoned its AI ambitions for safety reasons and the value of its stock subsequently fell to zero. The questions are not strictly standardized, so their wording may vary. Candidates are also asked about moral dilemmas they have faced in the past.

According to a source, CEO Dario Amodei had questioned whether newer employees were joining the company for the right reasons. On its careers page, Anthropic emphasizes that its employees are united above all by the company’s mission.

The company previously rejected a deal with the US military that would have allowed the government unrestricted use of its technology, costing it government contracts. It also restricted access to its Mythos model over security concerns.
