SpaceX Plans New Starship Spaceport in Louisiana

SpaceX plans to build a Starship launch site in southern Louisiana, aiming to begin construction of its fourth spaceport next year, the company announced on Tuesday alongside Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry.

The new facility, named Starbase, Louisiana, will be built on a 50,585-hectare site in Vermilion Parish and expand SpaceX’s Starship launch operations beyond South Texas. The company says the spaceport is designed to support thousands of Starship flights a year.

The coastal marshland site is planned as a self-sustaining spaceport with its own propellant production and power generation, as well as deep-water shipping capabilities, vehicle processing facilities and an airport.

Landry described the project as an “inflection point” for Louisiana, saying it would create jobs, provide momentum for local communities and help protect the state’s coast.

SpaceX already launches rockets from Cape Canaveral in Florida, Vandenberg Space Force Base in California and Starbase in South Texas, where the company has carried out its Starship development and test-launch operations..
