Latvia Bans Russian and Belarusian Goods

The Latvian government has approved regulations banning imports of selected industrial goods from Russia and Belarus from 1 September, according to Latvian news portal Delfi. The government’s decision sets the date for a ban approved by the Latvian parliament in July with the support of 66 of its 100 members.

The restrictions also cover goods originating in Russia or Belarus that enter Latvia through third countries. The ban includes printed materials such as books and newspapers, as well as clothing, footwear, textiles, headwear, toys, games and sports equipment.

The measure is intended to strengthen Latvia’s national security, reduce export revenues for Russia and Belarus and prevent the spread of Russian propaganda in the country.
