The incident occurred during a massive Russian missile attack on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

Ukraine immediately blamed Russia for the attack, but this was refuted by Poland and later by international investigations. According to available information, it was a Ukrainian air defense missile that attempted to intercept a Russian missile attack but failed and struck Polish territory.

This incident was the first case during the Russian invasion in which a NATO member was hit.

In an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski, former Polish President Andrzej Duda admitted that shortly after the incident, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called him and pressured Poland to immediately announce that it was a Russian missile.

Duda said he perceived this as an attempt to drag Poland into war with Russia, but was not shocked.

“They have been trying to drag everyone into the war from the very beginning. That's obvious, it's in their interest – and it would be best for them if they succeeded in dragging NATO countries into the war. It's clear that they are looking for those who would actively fight on their side against the Russians. This has been happening since day one,” the former president noted.
