Sakharov: Security guarantees for Ukraine endanger Europe

The Russian Foreign Ministry strongly rejects negotiations on the deployment of foreign troops on Ukrainian territory.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated, “Russia will not discuss the deployment of foreign troops, as this is fundamentally unacceptable and jeopardizes Ukraine's security in any form or format.”

According to her, European leaders who are already drawing up plans for the use of military means after the end of the war should take Russia's clear position into account in their considerations.

Zakharova also described Ukraine's demands for security guarantees as a “springboard for terrorism and provocations against Russia,” adding that they “did not guarantee Ukraine's security, but posed a threat to the European continent.”

Leading representatives of the coalition, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, met in Paris on Thursday.

Macron reiterated that Europe was ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine on the day a peace agreement was signed, although the details would remain “highly confidential.” Zelensky, on the other hand, stressed that he had seen no signs of Russia's willingness to end the war.
