Trump allegedly approved a mission that resulted in the deaths of North Korean civilians
During a secret US mission in North Korea in 2019, approved by then-US President Donald Trump, SEAL units shot and killed several civilians.
The aim of the operation was to install a listening device on the territory of the country with a nuclear arsenal.
According to the New York Times, the civilians apparently stumbled upon the US unit by chance while gathering shellfish at night. The Americans then opened fire, killing all members of the small fishing boat.
The Pentagon later assessed the operation in its internal investigation as justified under the rules of engagement.
The incident occurred during intense diplomatic talks between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, which ultimately failed.
Since then, North Korea has continued to develop nuclear weapons and missile technologies.
The White House and the Pentagon declined to comment.
