We've lost them, says Trump. India and Russia are moving closer to Beijing
Former US President Donald Trump expressed his frustration that India and Russia are, in his opinion, turning to China. He was responding to the joint appearance of the three heads of state and government—Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, and Narendra Modi—at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China.
“It looks like we have lost India and Russia to the deepest, darkest China. May they have a long and prosperous future,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social network alongside a photo of the heads of state posing side by side.
India did not comment on his words, and China and Russia also did not initially respond. The SCO summit brought together more than 20 heads of state and government, mostly from non-Western countries.
Trump also said he was “very disappointed” in Putin, but was not yet concerned about Russia's growing ties with China. He added that he wanted to speak with the Russian president soon. He said he was frustrated that, more than three years after the invasion began, he had not yet succeeded in achieving peace between Russia and Ukraine.
