Cuba: Nationwide power grid collapses completely once again

On Wednesday morning, Cuba's national power grid collapsed again – for the fourth time in a year.
According to the authorities, this resulted in a complete power outage across the entire island. The incident could be related to a malfunction at the CTE Guiteras thermal power plant.

The blackout occurred shortly after 9 a.m. local time. Authorities said they had already begun restoring the system, but the exact cause was still under investigation.

The island has long suffered from massive energy problems – power outages of up to 16 hours a day are not uncommon.

The grid is outdated, overloaded, and has collapsed several times in recent years. The situation is exacerbated by fuel shortages, natural disasters, and the growing economic crisis.

Oil supplies from countries such as Venezuela, Russia, and Mexico have declined significantly, further exacerbating the crisis.
