Pope Leo prepares his first document, which suggests a continuation of Francis's line
Pope Leo XIV is preparing his first major document—an apostolic exhortation that will build on the legacy of Pope Francis and focus on the needs of the poor.
According to Vatican sources, it will be titled “Dilexit te” (I have loved you) and is expected to be released in a few weeks. The title refers to Francis' last encyclical, “Dilexit nos” (He has loved us), and suggests a desire for continuity.
It is still unclear whether the text will cover multiple topics or focus exclusively on social issues.
Francis, who died in April, was known for his closeness to the poor and his sharp criticism of the economic system.
Lev, a native of the US and former Cardinal Robert Prevost, was elected on May 8. According to observers, the encyclical could outline his papal priorities and show the extent to which he will continue his predecessor's line.
