Solar threat? The US is investigating the presence of secret devices in highway systems.

US officials warn of a potential security risk in solar power systems that supply electricity to highway infrastructure.

The Federal Highway Administration issued a recommendation after it was discovered that some inverters and batteries may contain undocumented mobile communication devices—likely devices for covert communication.

Although the country of origin of these devices was not explicitly mentioned, several of them come from China. Experts warn that they could be used for sabotage or remote control.

Washington is therefore calling for these components to be checked using spectral analysis to reduce the risk of misuse.

Similar concerns also apply to Chinese cars, which could collect data on American roads. The Department of Commerce has already prepared an import ban starting in 2026.

China rejects the allegations and claims that they are politically motivated attacks on its technological achievements.
