Trump wants NATO to take unified economic action against Russia and China
On Saturday, Donald Trump called on NATO member states to immediately stop buying Russian oil and to jointly impose tough sanctions on Russia. He emphasized that he would only be prepared to act if all allies joined in the measures.
At the same time, he suggested that NATO as a whole should impose tariffs of 50 to 100 percent on Chinese products in order to weaken economic support for Russia.
“I am ready to impose significant sanctions on Russia if all NATO member states agree and if all NATO member states stop buying oil from Russia,” he wrote in a post on social media.
Trump has long pushed for tougher action against Moscow and warned that the US could also impose secondary sanctions on countries that buy Russian oil – particularly China and India – if the situation does not change.
