Cross cut off Greek Catholic church in Poland

A serious incident occurred in the Polish city of Legnica—unknown individuals damaged the roof and cut off the cross from the main dome of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of the Assumption.

The act took place shortly before the Christian holiday of the Exaltation of the Cross. The Ukrainian ambassador to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, expressed his outrage at this act of vandalism on Facebook and pointed out the concern of the Ukrainian community.

The embassy has already contacted the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Consulate General in Wrocław has asked the local authorities to immediately investigate and punish the perpetrators.

Bodnar publicly appealed to the Polish judicial authorities not to let similar attacks on Ukrainians go unpunished. The incident in Legnica reinforces fears of growing tensions toward the Ukrainian community in Poland.
