The Israeli con artist known as the “Tinder Swindler” has been arrested in Georgia
Simon Leviev, known as the “Tinder Swindler” thanks to a Netflix documentary, was arrested by Georgian authorities on Sunday after landing at Batumi airport, according to the Jerusalem Post.
The 35-year-old Israeli's lawyer said the reasons for his arrest were still unclear. Leviev gained international attention after posing as the heir to a diamond empire for years and defrauding women via the Tinder app. He persuaded them to send him large sums of money.
Although he became a symbol of internet fraud after the document was published, he continues to face new legal proceedings.
In November last year, his former acquaintance Iren Tranovová sued him for more than €100,000, claiming that she had lent him around €37,000, which he never repaid.
In March last year, members of the Leviev family also filed a complaint against him, claiming that he had damaged their reputation by pretending to be a member of their clan.
