NATO strengthens its defense, the British participate in the “Eastern Sentry” mission over Poland
British fighter jets will conduct air defense missions over Poland as part of NATO's Eastern Sentry mission. This has been confirmed by the British government.
The Royal Air Force aircraft will join allied forces, including those from Denmark, France, and Germany, to strengthen NATO's defenses along its eastern flank.
The Eastern Sentry mission, which began less than three days after Russian drones violated Polish airspace, was confirmed last Friday by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. He added that Russia's recklessness in the air is becoming increasingly frequent.
The incident also prompted the UN Security Council to convene on Friday, September 12. The statement read by Polish Secretary of State Marcin Bosacki before the meeting was supported by a total of 43 countries. It called on Russia to end “its aggressive war against Ukraine” and refrain from further provocations.
The United States joined its Western allies in a joint statement expressing concern about the incursion of Russian drones into Poland and accusing Moscow of violating international law and the founding charter of the United Nations.
