The Trump administration wants to use customs revenues to support farmers

The Donald Trump administration is preparing a plan to use tariff revenues to fund a program for American farmers who are facing declining export sales and rising harvest costs, the Financial Times reported.

The newspaper also cited US Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins. “There may be circumstances where we will very seriously consider a support package and announce it soon,” Rollins said in an interview with the newspaper on Wednesday.

The move is intended to help farmers weather a period of economic hardship caused by China's suspension of purchases of US soybeans in the wake of the trade dispute and tariffs that have increased the cost of fertilizers, machinery, and other imported inputs.
