Ukraine plans to deploy up to a thousand defensive drones per day

Ukraine will soon increase the number of so-called interceptor drones to one thousand per day in order to counter the increasing Russian drone attacks.

This was announced by Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal together with Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, reported Ukrajinska Prawda.

Interceptor drones—drones designed to intercept and destroy enemy unmanned aerial vehicles—are intended to strengthen the protection of Ukrainian airspace.

They are considered a cheaper and more flexible alternative to conventional air defense systems, which are costly to operate and maintain.

Schmyhal pointed out that Russia is already capable of deploying up to 800 drones in a single night.

Therefore, at least 1,000 active interceptor drones are needed on the Ukrainian side every day.

“This level will be achieved. I cannot disclose the current figures, but we will get there very soon,” he said.

He added that the main problem was not the production of the drones themselves, but the ground control infrastructure—including radar systems and artificial intelligence—necessary for precise target acquisition.

“It is a complex system that takes time to implement, but we are progressing according to plan,” he added.
