Zelensky: Ukraine does not need a “Korean model,” but security guarantees
Ukraine needs security guarantees even before the end of the war, but a “Korean model” or other similar scenario is not up for discussion.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday in a conversation with journalists in Kyiv, as reported by the agency Interfax-Ukraine.
“One can talk rhetorically about different scenarios, but our situation is clearly different from that in Korea, where the war ended without a final peace treaty. That is why we are talking about security guarantees – Ukraine needs them because there may not be a final document ending the war,” Zelensky emphasized.
He agreed with French President Emmanuel Macron that security guarantees should not wait until the end of the fighting.
Even a ceasefire could suffice for this. “We must not waste time waiting for a clear peace agreement. We need security guarantees sooner,” Zelensky said.
At the same time, he emphasized that neither Kyiv nor its partners are considering a “Korean,” “Finnish,” or any other model.
“We have what we have—and no one knows how it will end,” the president said.
