American Democrats seek compromise, Trump decides on budget
The Democratic leaders in the US Senate and House of Representatives, Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, have called on President Donald Trump to engage in joint negotiations to prevent a looming government shutdown after September 30, when current funding expires.
In a letter, they stated that Democrats are ready for a bipartisan agreement on the budget that would improve the lives of American families and solve problems in the healthcare system.
However, they refused to support proposals that they believe would exacerbate the “Republican attack on healthcare.”
The meeting with the president is expected to be crucial in finding a compromise and preventing a shutdown that would paralyze the operations of federal agencies.
