Starmer: Hope for a two-state solution is fading, but we must not give up on it

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated in his recent speech that hope for a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through two separate state entities is gradually fading, but we must not give up on this hope.

He emphasized that the UK is committed to working for peace in the Middle East and to building consensus with regional leaders and other partners to create a shared framework for peace.

As part of these efforts, Starmer announced the official recognition of the State of Palestine, joining more than 150 countries that already recognize Palestinian statehood.

He described this step as an expression of the moral responsibility to support peaceful solutions and security for the people of Israel and Palestine.

He also proposed recognition of the State of Palestine during this year's United Nations General Assembly and called on Israel to take decisive action to end the violence in Gaza.

In his speech, Starmer unequivocally condemned Hamas for terrorism and called for the immediate release of hostages held by the group. He emphasized that the true vision of peace is completely at odds with the ideology of Hamas.
