During Erdogan's visit to the US, Turkey announces the lifting of import tariffs

Turkey has announced the lifting of additional import duties on goods from the US, which were introduced in 2018 in response to measures taken by then US President Donald Trump.

According to Monday's edition of the Turkish Official Gazette, the decision affects a wide range of products, from passenger cars, fruit, rice, and tobacco to alcoholic beverages, certain chemicals, and fuels.

The move comes symbolically during President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to the United States, where he is attending the United Nations General Assembly and is scheduled to meet with Trump.

The introduction of the tariffs six years ago was part of a trade dispute between Ankara and Washington that began during Trump's first term in office.
