No evidence of risk: EMA contradicts Trump's statements on paracetamol and autism

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has confirmed that paracetamol is safe to use during pregnancy and that there is no new evidence to justify changing the current recommendations.

Paracetamol, known in the US under the trade name Tylenol, can be taken by pregnant women if necessary—but at the lowest effective dose and frequency.

The announcement follows statements by former US President Donald Trump, who linked autism in children to vaccinations and the use of Tylenol during pregnancy – without any scientific basis.

The EMA emphasized that the available studies have found no link between the use of paracetamol during pregnancy and autism.

Paracetamol remains the recommended remedy for pain and fever relief during pregnancy, although patients should always read the package insert and consult their doctor before taking it.

Untreated pain or fever can pose a risk to the fetus, so it is important to treat these symptoms appropriately.
