YouTube restores suspended accounts, Google admits pressure from Biden
Google announced that YouTube will restore accounts that were permanently suspended for political statements—especially those related to COVID-19 and the US elections. The move comes after the company admitted that it had been under pressure from the Biden administration in the past to remove content that was classified as disinformation.
This is according to a document available to the House of Representatives and the Fox News portal.
In it, Google stated that some measures taken against creators – including Steve Bannon, Sebastian Gorka, and Dan Bongino – were based on internal policies that have since been repealed. However, according to a company lawyer, the White House repeatedly contacted Google to urge the deletion of content that did not violate any rules at the time. In the document, Google emphasizes that it values conservative voices and their importance to public debate.
The revelations are part of a broader investigation into how major tech platforms have restricted discussion of the pandemic, the 2020 election, and the Hunter Biden affair. Meta also took a similar step last year, ending its collaboration with external fact-checkers and criticizing political pressure from the government. Biden called this “truly shameful” at the time.
