Germany wants to change laws as drones pose an ever-increasing threat

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has pointed out the increasing risk posed by drones, which he described as a “major threat.” Although he believes this to be an abstract danger, it could have very real consequences in specific cases.

He was responding to recent incidents in Denmark, where drones have repeatedly disrupted air traffic. Similar incidents are now also being investigated by German authorities.

Dobrindt announced that Berlin is preparing legislative changes that would allow the army to actively intervene in the event of a threat to critical infrastructure or at major events – including shooting down drones.

According to Dobrindt, the aim is to strengthen the state's defense against potential attacks by unmanned aerial vehicles, which are increasingly being used for reconnaissance and sabotage purposes.
