Lavrov: The world is heading toward war, but Russia remains open to talks
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned at the United Nations that any aggression by NATO or the EU against Russia would result in a “resolute response.”
In a tense period in which Estonia accused Moscow of violating its airspace and Polish fighter jets destroyed Russian drones, Lavrov rejected accusations that Russia was planning an attack on the West.
He also rejected the idea of a return to the 2022 Ukrainian borders as “politically blind.” At the same time, he warned that the destruction of Russian aircraft in its airspace would lead to “great regret.”
Meanwhile, the United States declared its readiness to defend any NATO territory, with President Trump even approving the shooting down of Russian aircraft.
Lavrov also said he sensed a “willingness on the part of the US to engage in sincere dialogue” and had agreed with Minister Rubio to hold further talks.
