Kiev was hit by a massive attack from Russian drones and missiles early Sunday morning. Based on the info we have, this is one of the biggest attacks on the Ukrainian capital and its surroundings since the war started. The sky over the city was full of drones, and anti-aircraft fire could be heard the whole time. The attack was still going on at 7:20 a.m. local time.
Many residents sought shelter in low-lying subway stations. Nevertheless, at least three people were killed and about ten were injured in the capital. This was reported by Tymur Tkachenko, head of the military administration in Kyiv.
The attack also hit several other regions, with at least 16 people, including three children, injured in the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, according to authorities.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said Russia had used “hundreds of missiles and drones” in the nighttime attack. At the same time, he stressed the need for tougher sanctions: “Putin must feel the danger of continuing this war — for himself, for his friends' pockets, for his economy, and for his regime.”
Several regions of Ukraine were put on alert, while neighboring Poland closed its airspace over two southeastern cities and activated its fighter jets in response to the situation.
