Trump and Blair to oversee transitional administration in the Gaza Strip

The peace plan presented by the White House on Monday envisages a transitional administration after the war in the Gaza Strip, in which former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President Donald Trump are to play a key role.

According to the proposal, Gaza would be temporarily administered by a technocratic, apolitical Palestinian commission, whose specific members have not yet been determined. This commission would be under the international supervision of a new body called the “Board of Peace,” which Trump would chair. Blair and other heads of state and experts would also be members of this body.

The commission would be responsible for the day-to-day operation of public services and the administration of cities in the Gaza Strip, employing qualified Palestinians and international experts – without naming specific individuals. Hamas would have no role in the administration of the region.

The transitional body would also ensure the financing of reconstruction projects in the Gaza Strip until the Palestinian Authority's reform program is completed. International groups have already drawn up some investment plans.

However, reports of Blair's involvement have also been met with skepticism, given the history of British imperialism in the region and, in particular, Blair's involvement in the invasion of Iraq, which was based on false claims about weapons of mass destruction.

The Palestinian Authority and a group of Islamic states welcomed Trump's peace initiatives. Tony Blair described Trump's proposal as a “bold and intelligent plan.”
