Ukraine has reached another milestone on its path to EU membership

According to a report by the European Commission, Ukraine reached an important milestone on Wednesday on its path to joining the European Union—it successfully completed the bilateral review of applicable EU law as it relates to Ukraine.

This process, which began in July 2024, was made possible, according to Brussels, thanks to Kiev's strong commitment to reforms and alignment with European standards – despite the ongoing war with Russia.

The screening reviewed Ukraine's readiness in various areas, from food safety to support for farmers. Each area of negotiation was analyzed in detail with regard to alignment with EU legislation.

The results will now be presented by the Commission to the member states, which will decide whether negotiations can be opened in the individual areas. At the same time, Ukraine must continue its reforms and strengthen its institutional capacities.
