Resumption of sanctions against Iran is legally invalid and manipulated, says Russia

Russia has criticized the UN's decision to reinstate sanctions against Iran, calling it illegal and the result of political manipulation by Britain, France, and Germany.

These countries have triggered the so-called “snapback mechanism,” which means Iran is once again subject to an arms embargo and a ban on uranium enrichment. Moscow, however, says the whole process is legally invalid and not binding on other countries.

Iran, which denies any ambitions to build nuclear weapons, responded with threats of harsh retaliation.

Russia, which maintains close relations with Tehran, defends Iran's right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and condemns both American and Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities.
