Russia attacked gas and power plants, Ukraine accelerates gas imports
During the night, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, targeting mainly energy facilities in the east and center of the country.
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy, Russia used 381 drones and 35 missiles targeting infrastructure facilities in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions. The energy company DTEK said it was forced to shut down several gas facilities.
In response to the threat of shortages, Ukraine increased its gas imports and plans to fill its storage facilities to 13.2 billion cubic meters by mid-October.
The attacks are increasing as winter approaches and are already causing power outages. On Wednesday, drones also shut down the Chernobyl nuclear power plant for three hours, including the protective shell built in 2016.
